Just over 1 year ago, Kenny Dalglish returned as Liverpool manager to take charge of an FA Cup tie against Manchester United at Old Trafford. His side lost 1-0 to a Ryan Giggs penalty and had to go 3 quarters of the match with 10 men after Steven Gerrard was sent off for a two-footed lunge on Michael Carrick.13 months on and the same competition deals the reverse fixture, this time at Anfield.

6 Nations kicks off with the oldest rivalry

The 4th February 2012 sees the start of the 6 nations tournament, and after an appetiser of France v Italy at the Stade de France, Murrayfield hosts one of the oldest rivalries in world sport, Scotland v England at 5pm. The great thing about this game is that it often feels as if there’s more than a sporting result at stake, and you could be forgiven for thinking that Scotland’s recent bid for political independence could add an extra bit of spice to this crunch fixture.

Same Again for Novak Djokovic in 2012?

Tomorrow Novak Djokovic will defend his Australian Open title in Melbourne. It will be the start of many titles he gained throughout 2011, an unbelievable year which saw him win 3 grand slam titles and only lose 6 matches throughout the whole season, taking him to the number 1 spot in the world rankings.

Red and Blue Adulation for Gary Ablett

Today saw the sad passing of former Liverpool and Everton full back Gary Ablett. He died from a form of cancer known as non-Hodgkin's lymphoma which affects the blood cells in the body. He is one of a few players who has played for both Merseyside clubs and had mutual respect and adulation from both sets of supporters. Ablett won the FA Cup with both clubs, in 1989 with Liverpool, before moving to Everton in 1992 and winning the cup with them in 1995.
