What is Isle of MTV?
For the last six years MTV has put on one of their biggest shows on the beautiful Mediterranean island of Malta.
The show includes massive international music acts and kicks off the summer party season for Malta. Since it started, Isle of MTV has seen huge performances from Lady Gaga, Snoop Dogg, LMFAO, Black Eyed Peas, Scissor Sisters, David Guetta and Kid Rock. Confirmed artists headlining the show for 2012 include Will.i.am, Nelly Furtado and Flo Rida, with support from Cassie.
This year Isle of MTV takes place on the 26th June at the Floriana Granaries Sqaure, close to the city of Valetta on the east coast of Malta. The Floriana Sqaure is a fantastic outdoor venue for an event like this; with the iconic Floriana Granaries Church towering above the crowds, incredible firework displays, music from the world’s biggest music acts and the balmy Maltese night air, it’s fair to say that the atmosphere is something special.
For 2012 MTV are giving tickets away to Isle of MTV for FREE! 50,000 tickets are available on a first come, first served basis – so it’s best to arrive at the venue early!
This year Isle of MTV is set to be the biggest yet, with a week of events and parties surrounding the show, known as Malta Music Week. 2012’s Malta Music Week includes special guests Steve Angelo (of Swedish House Mafia) and John Martin, vocalist on Swedish House Mafia’s mega-hit Save the World.
Malta is no stranger to great events being put on by big names. Each year Creamfields and Ministry of Sound put on amazing events at the major clubs in Malta - Club Numero Uno and the Gianpula Club Complex. There’s also a great clubbing area in the resort of St Julian’s, known as Paceville with lots of trendy bars, pubs and nightclubs. Where to stay in Malta?
The Floriana Granaries Square is a fairly unassuming venue for one of the biggest summer parties in Europe. For the perfect clubbing holiday in Malta, stay at the nearby city of Valetta, it’s within walking distance of the Isle of MTV concert, which is good news as although buses will be running to the concert, parking and crowds will make any sort of transport a nightmare.
Valetta has a great choice of hotels to choose from, but if you really want to spoil yourself stay at the nearby resort of Sliema in the Hotel Fortina Malta. It’s right next to the bright blue Mediterranean Sea and has a great choice of spa treatments, swimming pools, restaurants and of course, bars. Plus, the Hotel Fortina is next to St Julian’s and the buzzing clubbing area of Paceville.
