Robin Van Persie - The Fantasy Football Dream...Or Nightmare!

Posted by on Saturday, February 4, 2012 Under: Football
Robin Van Persie, or affectionately known as RVP to the general football fan, has quickly become the player to have if you’re a fantasy football player in the 2011/12 Barclays Premier League Season.

If anyone plays the game on the Premier League website, you’ll know how expensive he is, and if you’re anything like me, you will point blank refuse to put him into your team due to ludicrous reasons such as, “You can’t afford to be a one man team in fantasy footy” and “He’s just going through a purple patch”. I for one am more than guilty of this stubborn like behaviour, ever since May I’ve refused to put him into my team and stuck with players like Luis Suarez and Gabby Agbonlahor hoping and praying that they would eventually come good, whilst I slowly slipped down the table and let other ‘managers’ with RVP in their side overtake me with ease, and laughing on the way past at my utter nonsensical attitude.

Well on Friday 3rd February 2012 I finally succumbed and put all my eggs into one basket, I sold some huge assets and brought him in...and hasn’t it paid dividends already. In Arsenals 7-1 demolition of Blackburn this weekend, the Dutchman scored 3 goals and made 2 assists, gaining him 40 points to boot (and that’s pre bonuses that the Premier League website adds on), that’s more points than I got for my whole team last week! So much for having a purple patch, the guy has scored 180 points throughout the whole season, and I’ve only just jumped on the bandwagon.

In the real world, RVP has scored 19 goals already this season, a staggering amount considering we have near on 4 months left to go in the season. If he keeps on going the way he is, he is surely on course to break the record for most league goals in a season, which currently stands at 34 goals, held jointly by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer in 93/94 and 94/95 respectfully.
