The Royal Liverpool Golf Club is a links course on the Wirral peninsula in Merseyside, North West England. The course is one of the most prestigious on Merseyside as it has hosted the Open Championship many times from the late 1800’s to most recently in 2006 when Tiger Woods picked up the title. The tournament in ’06 was such a success that the R&A decided to bring it back in 2014.
The clubhouse at Royal Liverpool is based in the small town of Hoylake, however the course stretches out into neighbouring town West Kirby, both of which have an excellent array of bars, pubs and restaurants.
There are a handful of hotels and b&b’s in both Hoylake and West Kirby but you will have to book way in advance as they will be snapped up very quickly, especially during major championship’s such as The Open. Many people will stay in Liverpool city centre and get the train to the course every day, Liverpool to Hoylake takes around 30 minutes and Hoylake station is located right next to the course.
