The Old Course at St Andrews is probably the most prestigious courses in the UK if not the world. It is renowned by many professional golfers as the pinnacle of their sport encompassing tradition and a challenging nature. Based in the east coast of Fife, St Andrews is a small part of Scotland which not only has the home of golf, but also one of the oldest educational facilities in the UK, St Andrews University.
The Old Course at St Andrews is a traditional links course which was established in the 1500’s. During it’s time it has hosted a number of championship tournaments including a number of Open Championship tournaments, including as far back as 1873. Some recent famous winners of the The Open include Seve Ballesteros in 1984, Nick Faldo in 1990 and Tiger Woods in 2000 and 2005.
The town of St Andrews caters for everyone and there are a mixture of hotels to pick from within walking distance or a taxi ride away. The nearest railway station is 5 miles away so staying in the area is probably the best option.
