The Cardiff City Stadium was built in 2009 and is purpose built for football matches and concerts. The stadium has a capacity of over 26,000 and from the season starting 2013/14 it started hosting Premier League matches for the first time. Since the stadium opened it has held a number of key football fixtures, along with Cardiff City FC’s league campaign, there has also been a number of international friendly fixtures played, and qualifying matches for Euro 2012 and the 2014 World Cup in Rio. In addition, rugby union matches have graced the Cardiff City Stadium, however the Cardiff Blues only played until the 2011/12 season. Finally, and with much joy for the locals, Stereophonics played there in 2010 as a homecoming concert.
If you have a hotel in Cardiff City Centre you can get to the stadium by travelling on the train from Central Station to either Ninian Park or Grangetown railway stations. There are plenty of hotels in Cardiff, so getting to and from the stadium from the centre couldn’t be easier.
