The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff has a capacity of 72,500 and was opened in June 1999 at a cost of £121m. The national stadium is primarily used for Wales’ home Rugby Union fixtures, however it is also used for home football internationals. Along with Wales’ fixtures, the stadium also played host to England’s domestic cup and play-off finals in the early 2000’s when Wembley Stadium was being redeveloped.
Sitting on the banks of the River Taff, the Millennium Stadium replaced the former national stadium Cardiff Arms Park. The new stadium is a far more modern take on the old Cardiff Arms stadium and is made up of the north, south, east and west stands. The highly aesthetic stadium is very pleasing on the eye and a fantastic representative for Wales’ national sporting fixtures.
Along with sporting events, the Millennium Stadium has also hosted a number of music events, including U2, Oasis, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Tina Turner, not to mention Welsh music legends Manic Street Preachers, Shirley Bassey and Stereophonics.
