The O2 Arena London

Based on the banks of the River Thames, The O2 Arena is quickly becoming an iconic landmark on the capital’s waterfront.

Formally known as the Millennium Dome, the arena was purposely built for an entertainment venue which was subsequently redeveloped to become an all purpose sport and music venue.

The O2 Arena has a capacity of up to 20,000 depending on the event and is currently the second largest indoor venue in the UK behind the Manchester Evening News Arena.  Since it’s opening in 2007, the O2 has enjoyed many sell out events including Elton John, The Rolling Stones and Bon Jovi, not to mention a number of comedy shows including Lee Evans, Russell Brand and Eddie Izzard. 

In terms of sporting events, the arena has hosting many high profile occasions from NHL to basketball to tennis. One of those sporting events includes the grand finale of the ATP tennis season, which sees the top 8 male tennis players in the world pitted against each other with a prize for the winner in excess of $1m. 

In the summer of 2012 The O2 Arena will be the venue for the gymnastics and basketball final for the London Olympics.

Getting to the O2 Arena

The O2 Arena has several car parks located near to the venue, but make sure to get their early to avoid not getting a spot. The easiest way of getting to the O2 is by tube, it is located right outside North Greenwich tube station on the Jubilee Line.
